DESCRIPTION
Photograph of the Golden Wedding Anniversary of Zedekiah Smith Barstow and Elizabeth Fay Blake Barstow of Keene New Hampshire. The photo was taken on 8/19/1868 in front of the Wyman Tavern at 339 Main Street. The Barstows used the building as a parsonage from 1818-1873 and added two wings to it.
Zedekiah was born in 1790 in Canterbury CT and died in Keene in 1873. Elizabeth was born in 1792 in Westboro MA and died in Keene in 1869. Dr. Barstow graduated from Yale and Dartmouth and was ordained in 1818. He started the Cheshire Theological Institute and was the last minister settled by the town before the separation of civil and church authority. He officiated until he was 80 years old.
